Rissani
Rissani is a historic market town near Merzouga that grew from the ruins of ancient Sijilmasa, once one of the great trading cities of the medieval Sahara. Its covered souks still trade dates, spices, and livestock much as they have for centuries, and the town remains an important centre for the Alaouite dynasty, which traces its origins to this region.
