Nador

Nador — On the Shores of the Marchica Lagoon

Tucked into Morocco's northeastern Mediterranean coast, Nador is built around one of the region's most striking natural features: the Marchica lagoon (also called Sebkha Bou Areg), a 115 sq km saltwater lake separated from the open sea by a narrow sandbar. It's a working port city rather than a resort town, which means real prices, real fish restaurants, and a pace of life set by fishermen and flamingos rather than tour buses.

Why Nador?

The Marchica lagoon itself — a Ramsar wetland of international importance, home to migratory flamingos and one of the largest lagoons in the Mediterranean basin
Long, undeveloped sandbar beaches separating the lagoon from the open Mediterranean
The nearby Spanish enclave of Melilla, reachable via the Beni Ansar border crossing, for a day-trip contrast in architecture and atmosphere
Fresh seafood restaurants along the port, reflecting the city's fishing-economy roots
A genuine, unpolished Rif-coast city, useful as a base for exploring Morocco's northeastern Mediterranean coastline

Nador is close to Al Hoceima along the same Mediterranean coast — see hotels around Al Hoceima for coastal stays in the region.
