Ifrane

Ifrane — the “Switzerland of Morocco”

Built by the French in the 1930s as a mountain retreat, Ifrane stands out for its sloped red-tiled roofs and alpine-style villas — a striking contrast to the rest of Morocco. Set in the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas at over 1,600m, it’s cool even in summer, dusted with snow in winter, and home to the prestigious Al Akhawayn University. It’s also one of the best places in the country to see Barbary macaques in the wild.
