El Badi Palace was built in the late 16th century by Sultan Ahmad al-Mansur to showcase Saadian wealth after a victorious war, once decorated with gold, marble, and precious stones before being stripped bare in the 17th century to build the new capital at Meknes. Today its vast sunken gardens and towering ruined walls, home to nesting storks, still convey the scale of its former grandeur.
