Ben Youssef Madrasa was once the largest Islamic college in North Africa, founded in the 14th century and rebuilt in the 16th, with over 100 student cells arranged around an ornately carved courtyard of cedar, stucco, and zellige tilework. Closed as a school in 1960 and restored as a historic monument, it remains one of the finest examples of Saadian architecture open to visitors in Marrakech.
