Al-Attarine Madrasa, built in the 1320s near the spice and perfume market that gives it its name, is a compact but exceptionally ornate Marinid religious school known for the density and quality of its carved stucco, cedar, and zellige decoration. Many architectural historians consider it, despite its small size, to rival the larger Bou Inania Madrasa nearby.
